A hands-on course in Guarne, Antioquia, Colombia, in two formats: one day to start from scratch, or 4 sessions to kick off a real project for your home. The pieces are cut to order with edge banding and you assemble them yourself.
Express course · 1 day
For people who have never built furniture. In one day you learn to measure, drill and assemble square, and you take home a small toolbox you made yourself.
Full course · 4 sessions
You pick a project for your home: a closet, a nightstand, or a piece for the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom or bathroom. Each session is a small project that is part of the big one, and you finish the rest at home with the same technique.
You safely use the drill, jigsaw and circular saw, and build a simple MDF box: the carcass of every piece of furniture.
You build a module with a shelf, design your project and send its cut list with the edges that get banding.
You drill with a jig, join with confirmat screws and leave your first module assembled, square and with its back on.
You fit hinges and drawer slides to that module and leave with a plan to build the remaining modules at home.
The tools
Melamine furniture sizes depend on the board thickness and the clearances. I wrote tools that do the math so nobody has to do it by hand.
From width, depth, height, number of drawers and door type, it generates the full cut list.
Turns the cut list into a printable sheet for the cutting shop, with the area of each material and the meters of edge banding for quoting.
Door, drawer and back-panel clearances, generated from the same numbers the calculator uses.
